This edition celebrates the 250th anniversary of the country’s independence. The announcement confirmed the special passport edition but did not specify that it would feature Trump’s image.
However, renders provided by the State Department show the portrait on a page, overlaying the Declaration of Independence from 1776 and Trump’s signature in gold lettering.
The next page will display an engraving of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Previously, U.S. passports did not include presidential portraits, except for images from Mount Rushmore.
According to Tom Piggott, a spokesperson for U.S. diplomacy, these passports will feature art specifically created for them, alongside enhanced security measures.
The announcement did not clarify whether this commemorative edition would be available to all Americans requesting a new travel document this year or only to those who choose it.
Additionally, the U.S. Mint has announced the issuance of one-dollar coins and gold coins commemorating the 250th anniversary, featuring Trump’s portrait on one side.
The Treasury Department has also confirmed the release of bills that will include Trump’s signature, marking the first time a sitting president’s signature appears on currency.
Moreover, since January 1, the National Park Service has included Trump’s face on its annual passes, also to commemorate the independence anniversary.
