dailyloe.com – Former Cy Young Award winner Trevor Bauer has signed with the Long Island Ducks. The independent Atlantic League team announced the deal on Thursday. Bauer, 35, will start their season opener on April 21.
His $102 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers was interrupted in 2021. Bauer received the largest penalty under MLB’s domestic violence policy. He ultimately missed 182 games between 2021 and 2022.
Bauer pitched only 17 games for the Dodgers before his suspension. The suspension followed a domestic violence allegation. MLB later reduced his penalty from 324 to 194 games.
Since his suspension, Bauer has pitched professionally in Japan and Mexico. He played for the Yokohama BayStars in Japan’s NPB last year. His record there was 4-10 with a 4.41 ERA.
Bauer won the National League Cy Young Award in 2020. He achieved a 1.73 ERA pitching for the Cincinnati Reds. This was during the pandemic-shortened season.
From 2012 to 2021, his MLB record was 83-69. He played for four teams including the Dodgers. His career ERA over that period was 3.79.
The Long Island Ducks compete in the unaffiliated Atlantic League. This marks Bauer’s return to professional baseball in the United States. His performance will be closely watched by the baseball community.[]
