Before the first round, Fowler dealt with a 102-degree fever, which affected his initial score of 74. “There were times I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to hit the hole from a few feet,” Fowler stated.
In the second round, Fowler rebounded by shooting a remarkable 63, significantly improving his standing in the tournament. He moved from T40 to T8, now sitting at 5-under 137, just four strokes behind the leader, Sungjae Im.
On Thursday, Fowler managed to hit only four fairways, but improved his accuracy by missing just three on Friday. He ranked second in both Strokes Gained: Approach-the-Green and Strokes Gained: Putting during the second round.
Quail Hollow holds significance for Fowler, as it is where he earned his first PGA TOUR victory in 2012. He has achieved seven top-25 finishes in 11 Truist starts at this venue.
This marks the first time Fowler has achieved back-to-back top-10 finishes since the FedExCup Playoffs, which has elevated him to 32nd in the FedExCup standings. He currently ranks 30th in this year’s FedExCup with six top-25 finishes in ten starts.
“There’s been a lot of good stuff,” Fowler noted, highlighting his improved health and performance as he aims to continue his upward trajectory.
