dailyloe.com – Vladimir Putin has stated that he believes the Ukraine war is nearing its conclusion. This assertion came shortly after a diminished Victory Day parade in Moscow, where he vowed to defeat Ukraine.
Putin remarked, “I think that the matter is coming to an end,” referring to the ongoing conflict that has resulted in significant casualties and destruction in Ukraine. He expressed a willingness to negotiate new security arrangements for Europe, indicating that he prefers to engage in talks with Gerhard Schröder, the former German chancellor.
As the leader of Russia since 1999, Putin is currently facing anxiety in Moscow over the war’s impact. The conflict has resulted in hundreds of thousands of deaths and has severely affected Russia’s economy, while relations with Europe are at a historical low.
Despite efforts, Russian forces have yet to fully capture the Donbas region in eastern Ukraine, where fighting has intensified. Putin’s remarks followed a ceasefire announcement, during which both sides accused each other of violations.
Putin criticized Western nations, stating, “They started ratcheting up the confrontation with Russia, which continues to this day.” He believes that the West had anticipated a significant defeat for Russia and that their strategy has failed.
He stated, “I think it [the war] is heading to an end but it’s still a serious matter,” emphasizing the ongoing nature of the conflict. Putin also mentioned his readiness to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, but only once all conditions for a potential peace agreement are established.
He clarified, “This should be the final point, not the negotiations themselves,” reiterating his stance on direct talks with Zelenskyy. When asked about negotiations with Europeans, he confirmed that Schröder would be his preferred contact.
Many in Ukraine and Europe remain skeptical about involving Schröder due to his previous close ties with Putin. The situation continues to evolve as the conflict remains unresolved.
