dailyloe.com – New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel addressed a personal photo scandal for the first time during a press conference on Tuesday, April 21, 2026.
Vrabel spoke about published photos showing him with NFL reporter Dianna Russini. The photos depicted them hugging and holding hands at an Arizona hotel.
Both Vrabel and Russini are married to other people. The images were first published by the New York Post two weeks prior.
Vrabel began his remarks by thanking the media for their patience. He called the situation a personal and private matter.
“Thank you for your patience that you’ve shown in a personal and private matter for me and obviously everybody involved,” Vrabel said. He acknowledged he could have addressed the issue sooner.
The coach explained his delay was intentional. He said it was important to first speak with his players.
“I understand I could’ve addressed you guys sooner, but it was important to me to have a conversation with the players, which I did yesterday, very candidly,” Vrabel stated. He said he did not want the matter to distract from the NFL Draft.
Vrabel emphasized he did not want to take away from the incoming rookies’ journey. He then discussed the personal impact of the scandal.
“I’ve had some difficult conversations with people I care about about — with my family, the organization, the coaches, the players,” Vrabel told reporters. He described those talks as positive and productive.
The Patriots coach stressed the importance of making good decisions. He said that responsibility starts with him.
“In order to be successful on and off the field, you have to make good decisions. That includes me. That starts with me,” Vrabel said. He added the team never wants actions to cause a distraction.
Vrabel concluded by reiterating his focus on preventing the situation from affecting the team. His statement marked his first public comments on the matter.
