dailyloe.com – High school basketball star Maximo Adams has confirmed his commitment to the University of North Carolina. He will enroll in June after conversations with new head coach Michael Malone. Adams is the first recruit to publicly confirm his plans under Malone’s leadership.
Adams confirmed his decision to Rivals’ Joe Tipton on Saturday. He told ESPN he has always wanted to play for the Tar Heels. Adams called UNC his dream school growing up and expressed excitement to be coached by Malone.
The 6-foot-7 forward from Sierra Canyon High School in California committed to UNC last November. He also signed with the program at that time. Adams chose Carolina over finalists Texas, Michigan State, and Kentucky.
He held offers from many other major programs. These included Alabama, Arizona State, BYU, and Duke. Kansas, Houston, Illinois, and Maryland also offered him scholarships.
Further offers came from Missouri, Oregon, Purdue, and Syracuse. Washington and West Virginia rounded out his extensive list of suitors.
Adams earned significant honors as a senior. He was named the 2026 Los Angeles Times Boys’ Player of the Year. He was also picked to be a McDonald’s All-American.
His postseason accolades included selection to the Jordan Brand Classic. He was also chosen to play in the Nike Hoop Summit. These are prestigious national all-star events.
Adams led his high school team to a remarkable 30-1 record. Sierra Canyon won the California State Open Division title. It was the school’s first such title since 2019.
He averaged 16 points per game during the season. Adams also pulled down 7.2 rebounds per contest. His performance was a key to his team’s success.
Adams is ranked No. 22 in the Rivals Industry Rankings. Inside Carolina analyst Sean Moran provided an assessment of his game. Moran called Adams one of the more complete offensive wings in his class.
Moran said Adams runs the court well in transition. He can attack the basket from the wings effectively. Adams is also a pure shooter in catch-and-shoot situations.
He possesses solid shooting form in halfcourt sets. Adams uses his size to post up smaller defenders. He knows how to attack angles and move without the ball.
Defensively, Adams can guard either forward spot. He is comfortable guarding on the perimeter. His length can disrupt opposing players in half-court sets.
Adams also attacks the glass hard for rebounds. He arrived on North Carolina’s radar last summer. Standout performances on Nike’s EYBL circuit drew their attention.[]
