dailyloe.com – Khamzat Chimaev, the UFC Middleweight champion, is preparing for his title defense against Sean Strickland at UFC 328.

This event will take place on May 9, 2026, at Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. Chimaev has hinted that this fight might be his last in the Middleweight division.

Chimaev expressed his desire for bigger fights beyond Middleweight, stating, “I hope so,” in response to questions about moving up. He enjoys pizza and is considering a future in Light Heavyweight.

The champion has shown interest in facing former champion Alex Pereira. Chimaev noted that if Pereira loses to Ciryl Gane next month, he might return to Light Heavyweight.

“I just want big fights,” Chimaev emphasized. He is looking for high-profile matchups and significant earnings.

Chimaev pointed out that with Light Heavyweight champion Carlos Ulberg sidelined, the division is open for movement. He is not interested in staying at Middleweight.

Chimaev remarked, “I don’t think [there are big things at Middleweight].” He highlighted that his upcoming opponent, Strickland, does not present a significant challenge for him.

Chimaev previously defeated Dricus du Plessis, who has beaten Strickland twice. He feels that continuing in Middleweight is repetitive.

Before making any decisions about his future, Chimaev must first secure a victory over Strickland on Saturday.
