The franchise legend was honored during the team’s regular-season finale against the New Orleans Pelicans. This marked his first appearance at the arena in eight years. The event was part of Fan Appreciation Night.
Garnett was named a team ambassador under new owners Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez. He was recognized at the Sunday night game with various in-game moments and experiences. Former teammates joined the festivities for the reunion. A halftime performance was provided by Montell Jordan.
Garnett was escorted to courtside seats by Lore and Rodriguez before tip-off. His two daughters accompanied him for the special occasion. He acknowledged the Target Center crowd while a tribute video played. Garnett then greeted current Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards.
Edwards was not playing in the Sunday night game. Garnett spent 14 seasons with the Timberwolves during his Hall of Fame career. He earned the NBA MVP award in 2004. The team announced his return as an ambassador on April 3.
“I can’t wait to come home,” Garnett said after the announcement. “Coming back for me is about what’s next. I’ve spent time with Marc and Alex, and you can feel the difference. The energy is real.”
Garnett added, “The vision is real. They’re building something that lasts, with a team on the court that’s hungry to win. I’m excited to be back in the building with the fans. Minnesota, let’s go!”
Timberwolves coach Chris Finch spoke before the game about his favorite Garnett memory. Finch learned about Garnett’s impact on Minnesota during his first day on the job in 2021.
