dailyloe.com – Vice President JD Vance’s planned visit to Iowa has been canceled. He was scheduled to campaign alongside U.S. Rep. Zach Nunn on April 30 and attend a Turning Point USA event at Iowa State University.
Both events are off, according to media reports. The campaign event with Vance and Nunn will now take place on May 5, as Nunn is needed for a House vote on April 30.
Nunn stated on Twitter that he is “fighting for the farm bill this week” and will host Vance in Iowa next week. A second tweet confirmed the cancellation of the Turning Point USA event.
Turning Point USA Tours Team indicated that the cancellation was due to a scheduling conflict. They noted that Iowa State University cannot accommodate a rescheduled date this semester due to students entering prep week and final exams.
The cancellation is not linked to security concerns. On April 25, a gunman was subdued at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, prompting an evacuation of President Donald Trump, Vance, and other officials.
Turning Point USA plans to send local student volunteers to Washington, D.C., to meet with Vance. They remain committed to returning to Iowa for their college tour in the fall semester.
Vance recently attended a private fundraiser and roundtable in Des Moines as Trump’s running mate for the 2024 election. He was previously a keynote speaker at the Greater Des Moines Partnership’s 2019 annual dinner.
Vance is anticipated to be a strong contender for a presidential run in 2028. However, this week was one of the few occasions he would have spent significant time in Iowa.
