dailyloe.com – The New York Liberty are preparing for their 30th season amid injury challenges, having made two new signings before their opening game. The team announced the signings on Friday to address a short-handed roster just before facing the Connecticut Sun.

Key players Sabrina Ionescu, Rebecca Allen, and Satou Sabally are sidelined due to injuries. Ionescu is out due to a left foot injury sustained in a preseason match, while Allen has a left leg injury, and Sabally is dealing with a cyst.

Liberty’s first-year coach Chris DeMarco remarked, ‘It’s going to be day to day,’ referring to Sabally’s condition. He expressed uncertainty about her traveling for the road trip following the opener.

Ionescu is expected to be unavailable for a couple of weeks. Allen’s potential return this weekend remains uncertain. Additionally, Raquel Carrera and Leonie Fiebich are absent as they fulfill overseas commitments.

Betnijah Laney-Hamilton is set to make her return to the court after over a year away, having recovered from an acute meniscus tear in her left knee, which required surgery in March 2025. The Liberty’s roster changes come at a critical time as they gear up for the regular-season opener.
