dailyloe.com – Former SMU center Samet Yigitoglu has committed to transfer to Indiana. The announcement was reported by DraftExpress’s Jonathan Givony on Tuesday, April 14, 2026. The 7-foot-1 player from Turkey spent two seasons with the SMU Mustangs. He entered the NCAA transfer portal just last week.
Yigitoglu was one of the ACC’s most improved players this past season. He played under coach Andy Enfield at SMU. This year, he averaged 10.7 points and 7.9 rebounds per game. He also contributed 1.6 assists and 1.3 blocks while shooting 63% from the field.
As a freshman, he started 32 of the team’s 35 games. He averaged 10 points, 6.2 rebounds, and one block per game. His 53% field goal shooting was among the best for an SMU first-year player. He played an average of 28 minutes per game this season.
His entry made him a top available center in a sparse class. Several other schools contacted him early on. South Carolina, Texas Tech, and Washington were among those schools. Louisville and Gonzaga also showed interest in the player.
Indiana prioritized the Turkish native and has now secured his commitment. Yigitoglu is ranked as the No. 37 overall transfer this cycle. He is also the No. 7 center to enter the portal. This addition strengthens Indiana’s transfer portal haul.
The Hoosiers now have the No. 1 transfer class according to On3’s rankings. The class includes four commitments so far. Three of those commitments are ranked as four-star prospects. This is happening in Year 2 under coach Darian DeVries.
The group is headlined by Notre Dame transfer Markus Burton. Burton is considered a premier scoring lead guard. He won the ACC’s Rookie of the Year award as a freshman in 2023-24. He later faced injuries in his sophomore and junior seasons.
Despite his injuries, Burton averaged over 21 points per game as a sophomore. He averaged nearly 19 points per game as a junior. An ankle injury cost him most of his junior season. He missed 21 games during that injured season.
He is joined by Georgia Tech transfer guard Jaeden Mustaf. Duke transfer Darren Harris is also part of the class. Harris played primarily a reserve role over the past two seasons. He appeared in 36 games for Duke this past season.
Harris averaged 3.3 points in 9.7 minutes per game in 2025-26. Mustaf averaged 10.4 points and 4.3 rebounds last season. He shot 39% from behind the three-point arc. He played for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.[]
