dailyloe.com – FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem has welcomed Christian Horner’s potential return to Formula 1 (F1). Horner last served as Red Bull’s team principal in July 2025. His departure came after he was abruptly sacked by Red Bull GmbH, a decision led by CEO Oliver Mintzlaff.
Mintzlaff stated, ‘We felt it was time to turn the page and start a new chapter.’ This decision was not made lightly and followed a tumultuous period for Horner, who became a divisive figure in motorsport.
Horner oversaw Red Bull’s success since their entry into F1 in 2005. He faced scrutiny for alleged inappropriate behavior towards a colleague but was cleared of wrongdoing after an internal investigation in February 2024.
Despite the controversies, many individuals are interested in his potential comeback. Horner has expressed that he will return to F1 only for the right opportunity.
He has been linked to Alpine, exploring a reported interest in Otro Capital’s 24 percent stake in the team. Additionally, Horner was a guest of F1 president Stefano Domenicali at the recent MotoGP Spanish Grand Prix.
He is considering options beyond F1, including a move to MotoGP. Any potential return would depend on completing a significant period of gardening leave.
Since leaving the sport nearly 10 months ago, the possibility of Horner’s return to the F1 paddock is becoming more plausible.
