dailyloe.com – President Trump welcomed DoorDash delivery driver Sharon Simmons to the White House on Monday. The impromptu televised press event occurred after she delivered a food order from McDonald’s. The president invited Simmons to discuss his policy of no tax on tips with reporters. He also asked her personal questions about her voting history and views on sports.

Simmons told reporters she had never delivered to the White House before. She said the no tax on tips policy has helped her financially. Her husband is currently fighting cancer. The policy allowed her to keep an extra $11,000 in earnings.

“Well you’re really nice. Would you like to do a little news conference with me with these people?” President Trump asked Simmons. “It’s such an honor to meet you,” Mr. Trump told her. “And I think you voted for me, do you think?” Simmons responded, “Um, maybe,” while laughing.

“I heard you’re a great supporter, we appreciate it,” the president said. Simmons agreed with the president that the tax benefit is “very special.” Reporters asked the president questions about Iran, the pope, and an AI-generated image. The image he posted appeared to depict him as Jesus.

A reporter then asked Simmons if the White House tips well. “Um,” she smiled, “potentially.” “Great,” Mr. Trump responded, handing her cash. “Yes, very,” Simmons added after receiving the tip. The president later asked Simmons if she believes “men should play in women’s sports.” He criticized Democratic policies before posing the question.

“I really don’t have an opinion on that,” Simmons responded. “You don’t? I’ll bet you do,” the president said. “No, no. I’m here about no tax on tips,” she replied diplomatically. Simmons is from Arkansas and has completed over 14,000 deliveries since starting in 2022. She is a grandmother of ten, according to DoorDash.

“It was an incredible honor to represent Dashers from all over the country at the White House today,” Simmons said in a statement. The statement was released by DoorDash. “Thanks to DoorDash, I have been able to provide for my family while keeping the schedule that works best for me.” She said this was something she never thought possible.

“Now No Tax on Tips has taken things to the next level, letting me keep more of the tips I earn and deserve,” Simmons stated. “Today is a celebration of the advocacy of thousands of Dashers from around the country who fought to ensure we were included.” The event highlighted the administration’s policy on tip taxation.[]
