dailyloe.com – Phoenix Suns All-Star guard Devin Booker will not qualify for NBA postseason awards this season. This is due to the league’s specific minute requirements for eligibility. Booker will fall short despite potentially appearing in 66 total games.

The NBA mandates players log at least 20 minutes in 63 games. They must also play 15 to 19 minutes in two other games. This totals the required 65 qualified appearances.

Any game under 15 minutes does not count toward the limit. Booker has played 62 games so far this season. He has 60 games with 20 or more qualifying minutes.

He played under 15 minutes in two specific contests. Booker logged only 10 minutes on December 1 against the Lakers. He played just nine minutes on February 19 versus the Spurs.

Injuries contributed to his limited playing time in those games. He suffered a right hip injury in the loss to San Antonio. A right groin injury occurred against the Lakers.

Therefore, playing 20 minutes in the final four games is insufficient. That would bring his total games played to 66. However, his qualified games would only reach 64.

Booker is averaging 25.8 points and six assists this season. He is a two-time All-NBA selection. His statistical performance will not be recognized for annual awards.

The rule aims to ensure award winners are consistently available. It emphasizes participation and durability throughout the long season. Booker’s case highlights the strictness of these criteria.[]
