dailyloe.com – Delta Air Lines unveiled an updated Delta One suite on Monday. This marks the first refresh of its top-tier seat in a decade. The new suites will debut on Airbus A350-1000 aircraft in 2027. The move comes as airline competition for premium travelers intensifies.
The new suites will include beds three inches longer than older versions. They also feature a new pillow-top cushion for improved comfort. The design provides travelers with more leg and knee room. Mauricio Parise, Delta’s vice president of brand experience, explained the changes.
“Most customers are side sleepers,” Parise said. He stated the new designs could better accommodate them. Delta had customers test the new suites for hours at its headquarters. The original Delta One cabin debuted nearly a decade ago on A350s.
That original cabin featured lie-flat beds, doors, and a ‘do not disturb’ button. “We were a first mover, [and] started flying with doors in 2017,” Parise noted. He added, “There is an element of improvement.” The A350-1000s are dedicated to long-haul flights.
These aircraft will be equipped with 50 of the new suites. The refresh is part of a broader industry trend. Airlines are adding more expensive and profitable premium seats. Wealthier customers continue to drive financial results for carriers.
Delta reported its premium ticket revenue was up 14% in Q1. This revenue comes from first class and other expensive options. The comparison is against revenue from the same period last year. Main cabin revenue also increased for the first time since late 2024.
Delta’s rival, United Airlines, recently showed off its new Polaris suite. The reveal occurred at the carrier’s hangar at Los Angeles International Airport. United displayed a range of other new premium products last month. These products aim to give travelers more chances to pay for extra space.
United’s offerings include a three-seat coach row that converts into a bed. The airline is also adding lie-flat seats on narrow-body Airbus jets. Premium economy seats on those narrow-body jets are part of the plan. The industry-wide focus remains on capturing high-value travelers.[]
