dailyloe.com – The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has started a major refurbishment program for its older Blue Line trains. This initiative aims to align the trains with current safety standards and improve passenger comfort. The work focuses on the earliest batch of trains introduced between 2002 and 2007. A total of 70 trains from both the Red and Blue lines are being upgraded in phases.

So far, 31 trains have already undergone the refurbishment process. The work is progressing steadily across multiple planned phases. The first two stages of the project have seen significant progress. A third phase will cover 22 Blue Line trains and is scheduled for completion by November 2027.

Senior officials recently reviewed one of the newly refurbished trains. Managing Director Dr Vikas Kumar was among those who inspected the train before it returned to passenger service. The upgrades extend far beyond simple cosmetic improvements. Interiors, including passenger areas and driver cabins, have been refreshed to address wear and tear.

Electrical systems have also been completely overhauled. This work is intended to improve the operational reliability of the trains. New-generation passenger information systems have been installed across the coaches. These digital displays offer real-time updates on routes, station arrivals, and travel timings.

Safety enhancements form a critical component of the overhaul. Coaches are now equipped with advanced fire detection systems. These systems feature both smoke and heat sensors for improved monitoring. Upgraded circuit protection components have also been installed to minimise operational risks.

The refurbishment addresses evolving commuter expectations directly. Charging points for mobile devices and laptops have been added across all coaches. Improved communication systems are now in place as well. These allow passengers to connect directly with train operators during emergencies.[]
