dailyloe.com – Callum Newman made professional wrestling history Saturday at NJPW’s Sakura Genesis event in Tokyo’s Sumo Hall. The 23-year-old defeated Yota Tsuji to become the youngest IWGP Champion of all time. He secured the pinfall after hitting his Prince’s Curse and Make Way finishing moves.

This shocking victory ended Tsuji’s reign that began at Wrestle Kingdom 20 in January. Will Ospreay was the first to embrace Newman after the bell. Ospreay then placed the prestigious IWGP Championship belt around the new champion’s waist.

Newman delivered a short, confident promo to the roaring crowd. He declared there was no doubt about him anymore. The show closed with all United Empire members posing with their new champion.

Backstage comments later hinted at Ospreay seeking Newman’s help in AEW. Ospreay referenced issues with the Death Riders faction and Jon Moxley. He asked Newman for a private conversation about the situation.

The post-match scene turned chaotic when a hooded figure attacked Tsuji. The assailant revealed himself as Gabe Kidd after delivering a piledriver. Shingo Takagi rushed out to make the save.

Kidd managed to land a punch on Takagi before escaping the area. Takagi recovered and eventually confronted the new champion. He issued the first direct challenge for Newman’s newly-won IWGP title.

This landmark win marks a rapid ascent for the young British wrestler. Newman now holds New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s top championship. His victory reshapes the promotion’s main event scene dramatically.[]
