The Skilled and Trained Residential Heat Pump Workforce and Rebate Initiative targets high upfront installation costs and workforce shortages that hinder adoption.
This program aims to make heating and cooling systems accessible and affordable while creating local job opportunities.
Launched in March and backed by a $250,000 grant from the Clean Power Alliance Innovation Fund, the initiative will run for two years.
It is expected to increase heat pump installations in Ventura County by at least 100 units.
The program will provide significant savings on utility bills for residents who upgrade to these systems.
Heat pumps are known for their efficiency compared to gas or electric-resistance systems, using refrigerants to move heat instead of generating it.
Homeowners switching from older units to modern heat pumps through HVAC leases can cut energy costs by up to 50%.
Jeff Gorell, chair of the Board of Supervisors for Ventura County, emphasized the importance of this investment.
“This investment, made possible through grant funding, is about delivering real, practical solutions that benefit both our environment and our local economy,” Gorell stated.
The initiative aims to reduce upfront costs while fostering a skilled local workforce.
