dailyloe.com – Former President Bill Clinton interrupted the Dallas Cowboys pre-draft press conference on Wednesday at The Star in Frisco, Texas. The 42nd President of the United States entered the front entrance about 25 minutes into the scheduled 11:30 a.m. event. He walked through the side door into the press conference room to meet Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. Clinton upstaged the proceedings for a good five minutes, according to Cowboys columnist Mickey Spagnola.
Clinton greeted the room with a big grin and said, “I’m negotiating a draft.” Spagnola wrote, “Beats the hell out of ending a war.” The columnist noted that no other NFL team staging a pre-draft press conference this week likely had a former President walk in. Spagnola remarked, “Only the Cowboys, right?”
Less than 10 minutes after Clinton’s appearance, co-owner Stephen Jones addressed the status of franchised wide receiver George Pickens. Stephen Jones confirmed the Cowboys are making the decision to have Pickens “play on the franchise tag” for 2026. The team appears hesitant to commit long-term based on just one season of evidence with Pickens.
Pickens recorded 93 catches for 1,429 yards and nine receiving touchdowns in 2025, all career highs for the four-year veteran. His 15.4 yards per catch led the team. The Cowboys previously used similar franchise-tag approaches with Dak Prescott, DeMarcus Lawrence, Tony Pollard, Flozell Adams and twice with Anthony Spencer, seeking further evidence before long-term commitments.
