dailyloe.com – Cricket Australia has finalized its national contract list for the busy 2026-27 season, omitting young batter Sam Konstas. The 21-man roster rewards Ashes-winning players and includes new face Brendan Doggett. This decision shapes the squad for a packed international schedule ahead.

Brendan Doggett earned his first full national contract following his Ashes Test debut in Perth. Opener Jake Weatherald retained his upgraded deal despite a modest Ashes series average. Bowlers Michael Neser and Todd Murphy also received full contracts for the coming year.

The upcoming season features a demanding itinerary starting with a home Test series against Bangladesh. Australia will then tour Zimbabwe and South Africa for ODIs and Tests. A home white-ball series against England and ten Tests in 14 weeks will follow.

Sam Konstas was dropped after failing to build on a promising debut in 2024. His memorable Boxing Day knock of 60 against India was followed by just 103 runs in nine Test innings. A poor Sheffield Shield record ultimately cost him his contract spot.

National selector George Bailey stated the door remains open for the 20-year-old Konstas. Selectors are still interested in his development for future opportunities. The contract list prioritizes current form for a critical period of international cricket.[]
