dailyloe.com – Arkansas guard DJ Wagner plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal, according to a report from On3. The senior guard will seek a new program for his final year of eligibility. This move follows two seasons with the Razorbacks after starting his career at Kentucky.
Wagner has played his entire college career under coach John Calipari. He will now look elsewhere for his senior season. His decision adds to the offseason player movement in college basketball.
He averaged 7.4 points and 2.4 assists for Arkansas last season. Wagner mostly came off the bench, averaging 23.6 minutes per game. He started in 19 of the 35 games he appeared in.
This marked a shift from his early career starts. He started in 64 of his first 65 collegiate games. For his career, Wagner has played in 100 total games with 83 starts.
His career averages are 9.5 points and 2.4 assists per game. Arkansas finished its season with a loss in the Sweet 16. The team fell to No. 1 seed Arizona by 21 points.
The Razorbacks ended the year with a 29-8 overall record. They posted a 13-5 mark in Southeastern Conference play. Wagner helped Arkansas win the SEC Tournament championship.
It was the program’s second straight Sweet 16 appearance under Calipari. During Wagner’s season at Kentucky, the Wildcats lost in the round of 64. They were eliminated by Oakland in the NCAA tournament.
Wagner was a highly-touted recruit coming out of high school. The Rivals Industry Rankings listed him as a Five-Star Plus+ guard. This algorithm compiles ratings from four primary recruiting services.
He was the top-ranked combo guard in the 2023 recruiting class. Wagner was also ranked No. 7 overall nationally. With that pedigree, he will likely attract significant transfer interest.
