dailyloe.com – Angel City Football Club (ACFC) will compete against Portland Thorns FC on Sunday, April 26, at 3 p.m. Pacific at BMO Stadium. This match will be broadcasted on ESPN2 and ESPN Deportes.
In their last match, Angel City lost to the Orlando Pride, 2-1, on April 3 at Inter&Co Stadium. Defender Gisele Thompson scored in stoppage time, but the team was unable to secure a draw.
Despite the loss, ACFC maintained over 63 percent possession during the match. Captain Sarah Gorden was named Player of the Match for her defensive performance, completing 65 passes and shutting down shots from NWSL leader Barbra Banda.
Portland Thorns FC, currently in second place in the NWSL standings with a match in hand, will visit after the international break. They drew against North Carolina in their last game but have victories over Kansas City, Seattle, and Washington this season.
Midfielder Olivia Moultrie and forward Reilyn Turner lead Portland’s offense with three goals each. Both players scored against North Carolina on April 4, posing a challenge for the Angel City defense.
Defender M.A. Vignola, who was part of the inaugural ACFC squad, will return to BMO Stadium after being traded to the Thorns in late 2025. She faces an Angel City offense that is leading the NWSL in goals scored.
In their history, Angel City has played Portland eight times over four seasons, holding a record of 1-3-4. One of Angel City’s key offseason additions, defender Emily Sams, has started every match and occasionally wears the captain’s armband.
Emily Sams, the 2024 NWSL Defender of the Year, has been pivotal in anchoring the defense and neutralizing opposing teams’ top players. Her performance will be crucial as ACFC seeks to improve their record against the Thorns.
