dailyloe.com – The 2026 New York City Power 100 list showcases the political landscape following the election of Mayor Zohran Mamdani in 2025. His unexpected victory has initiated a major shift in the city’s political hierarchy and policy priorities. This transformation has also sparked controversies surrounding issues of Islamophobia, antisemitism, and racism.

Former prominent figures like Eric Adams and Andrew Cuomo have seen their influence diminish. Meanwhile, Mamdani’s allies, including Elle Bisgaard-Church, Sam Levine, and Ali Najmi, are advancing efforts to create a more affordable city less reliant on traditional elites. Many top officials from the previous administration have left, though NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch remains in her position.

Other notable political figures gaining prominence include New York City Council Speaker Julie Menin and City Comptroller Mark Levine. This year’s Power 100 list, compiled by City & State’s John Celock, highlights the most influential public officials, business leaders, labor representatives, advocates, and activists shaping the new New York City.

Despite being relatively unknown, Mamdani successfully campaigned for mayor, defeating former Governor Andrew Cuomo twice in the previous year. He is now actively pursuing his vision at City Hall, collaborating with Governor Kathy Hochul to expand child care, which aligns with his campaign promises. However, his proposed tax increases for corporations and millionaires have not progressed.

Mamdani’s rise has also led him to engage with the White House, leveraging his newfound celebrity to support socialist allies. Nevertheless, he faces challenges, particularly from City Council Speaker Julie Menin regarding budget discussions, as well as allegations of antisemitism from Jewish leaders and questions about his approach to police governance.
