Hulu has officially cast Himesh Patel as the second co-lead in its upcoming reboot of The X-Files. Patel will star opposite Danielle Deadwyler as two new FBI agents in the series revival from writer-director Ryan Coogler. The project has received a formal greenlight for its pilot episode. Ryan Coogler, known for Black Panther, will write and direct the pilot episode. The new series features completely original characters rather than recasting Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. The official description states two decorated but different agents form an unlikely bond. They are assigned to a long-closed division handling unexplained phenomena cases.
This premise differs from the original 1993 series that launched with skeptic Dana Scully. She was originally assigned to debunk true believer Fox Mulder’s work. The original show ran for nine seasons and spawned two feature films. It became a defining television phenomenon of its era with 202 episodes.
Original series star Gillian Anderson has expressed support for the reboot. She confirmed she has read Coogler’s script for the new project. Anderson advised fans to approach the revival with an open mind. She described the upcoming series as “fucking cool” in recent comments to reporters.
